OBSERVATION 040

The Sea

Play with it
40000 points ・ 10s per turn

Press the picture and the points thin out. There are four rungs — forty thousand, six hundred, forty, one. The equation running underneath does not change. Only the shape goes.
“Listen” is the same bundle of relations, thrown to the ear instead of the eye. No sound was added; the same equation is put out through another sense.

It is crossing.

This one has no fixed shape.
The path the head has taken is the body itself.

At the tip of the tail is where the head was a moment ago.
So the length of the body is a length of time.

The older a part is, the thinner it becomes.
The thinnest end is the oldest head.

Where it is faint, the head passed quickly.
Where it is dense, the head was slow.

Reduce the points and the thickness goes first.
At six hundred and twenty-five, the line of the path it took remains.
At forty, markers set down along that path.
At one, the head itself.

The body is not where the head is.
It is not chasing — it has simply not yet let go of where the head has been.

Run at any time, by anyone, it appears in the same form.
No randomness, no clock, nothing from the environment.

The button above takes the equation out as it is. To count it again yourself:

pbpaste > f.txt && printf %s "$(cat f.txt)" | shasum -a 256

Take it and run it. No randomness and no clock are used, so the same creature appears on your screen too. The equation belongs to no one. Run and rewrite this equation →
